In this course, each student will receive training on basic photographic principles and how they apply to field photography by a combination of hands-on practical exercises and classroom instruction. Learning the basic principles of how a digital camera works and how to control light and exposure in an ever changing outdoor environment is crucial to developing a consistent high quality end product. Archaeologist in the field are no different than forensic investigators at a crime scene. They need to document everything they see with extreme accuracy and precision. Photography plays a very important role in the documentation of a scene or site by telling a story, providing accurate color and measurements of features and artifacts, display spatial information, and other visual data.
In this course, each student will receive training on advanced photographic principles and how they apply to artifact photography by a combination of hands-on practical exercises and classroom instruction. Learning the basic principles of how a digital camera works and how to control light and exposure is crucial to producing high quality artifact images consistently. In this course individuals are taught how to create shadow-less backgrounds while revealing diagnostic details. Using live view software, LED lighting, macro lenses, diffusers and reflectors students will be able to see the end results before shooting, ensuring that they pick up minute details. Each student will develop the skills needed to perform professional artifact photography.
